Mercantile Library

Type: Custom Ornamental Steel Staircase
Height: 20.5 feet

The custom specialty metal staircase we designed, fabricated and installed for Cincinnati’s historic Mercantile Library showcases our long legacy of delivering handcrafted architectural metalwork with precision and purpose. Spanning more than 20 feet in height and covering a footprint of approximately 185 square feet, the staircase features a striking array of 186 hanging metal rods, each one inch in diameter and varying in length to create a dramatic sculptural effect. Excluding the structural steel, the staircase itself weighs more than 20,000 pounds, a testament to the scale and demand of this installation. To achieve such an epic display of artistry and craft, this project demanded thoughtful coordination, meticulous fabrication, and superior attention to detail — capabilities we’ve mastered throughout our 160 years.

Taft Museum of Art

Type: Historic Fence Restoration + Handrail Replication
Linear Feet: 160-foot fence + 30-foot handrail

As part of an extensive renovation of this 200-year-old National Historic Landmark, Stewart Iron Works restored 160 feet of historic decorative fencing lining the house and museum’s sweeping front lawn, including its two tiers of hand-forged spears, decorative floral elements, and detailed geographic patterns. We also created a 30-foot bronze handrail that seamlessly fits within the house’s early 19th-century architectural style and design. Like the priceless paintings and stunning architecture featured throughout this iconic museum, the metalwork itself is a display of artistry and craft. Through careful planning and skilled craftsmanship, we were able to preserve its legacy for generations to come.

Ziegler Park

Type: Steel Picket Fencing
Linear Feet: 300

Seeking a perimeter fence that would protect children as they enjoyed this urban playground while contributing to the curb appeal of Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, local development nonprofit 3CDC trusted us to fabricate and install a steel picket fence to separate the play equipment from the adjacent pool and nearby streets. Though the design itself was simple, the specs were complicated by the curved dimensions of the perimeter and elevation grades on site, requiring radiused panels that fit the landscape. But our team’s deep-rooted attention to detail ensured precision and accuracy from design through installation.

Blue Ash Town Square

Type: Steel Picket Fencing
Linear Feet: 600

As part of an extensive development project for the City of Blue Ash, we fabricated and installed decorative metal fencing in various areas of this bustling town square. Along a retaining wall outside a row of storefronts that created a fall hazard, we installed a perimeter fence to keep pedestrians and business patrons safe as they walk along the adjacent promenade. We installed similar fencing near a parking lot to provide additional protection and security. At a nearby dog park, new fencing included custom miniature picket rails that closed a gap between the bottom of the fence and the yard to ensure even the smallest dogs remained safely inside the play space. Each of these areas featured elevation changes and curved dimensions, requiring custom panels, meticulous planning and coordination, and superior attention to detail to execute flawlessly.
